DECEMBER 9TH, 5PM
RESOURCE WORK COOPERATIVE, HOBART

Our three-part season, Nothing/Something/Everything, was an exercise in risk and experimentation, as our young company members explore the possibilities of improvisational dance practice. Each work had its own unique focus, with Everything making use of everything we discard, which then ends up at the tip shop.

For the uninitiated, an improvised performance means everything you see is made up on the spot. While in Nothing there was no framework, for Something we built a loose structure throughout the day, which the dancers responded to. This means while the structure is set, the movement and decisions are still entirely spontaneous.

With Everything we introduce a whole new layer; the mountain of items in and around the site, which are used as sets and props within the choreography. While working on site for the day we questioned many things. What is the meaning of everything? How did everything begin and how will it end? Can we include everything? Can everything be done at once? How much is too much? Value. Wealth. Greed. Chaos. Endless possibilities.

Everything wouldn’t be complete unless we included everyone. This performance marks the first time the DRILL Junior and Senior Companies have come together to perform - 37 dancers aged from 9 to 30.

A huge thank you to Molly, Jesse and the Resource Work Cooperative for hosting us and letting us take over their site for the day!
