Senior Company Intensive with Jaala!

The Senior Company have been working with Josh and Ange since April on the creative development of our next major season, NEON. This week we are are joined by Jaala, who is working with the dancers everyday to develop ideas and material for her piece. This is Jaala's first time working with a youth dance company, but she is no stranger to DRILL. Jaala was a company member herself when she performed in REBELLION in 2013, and since then has studied full-time at The Space in Melbourne and has been working as an independent dance artist.

The Elizabeth Barnard Scholarship

Beth Barnard has been a long-time supporter of DRILL, and you will probably have seen her manning the front of house desk and nearly all of our performances. This year Beth wanted to offer something extra and so together we created the Elizabeth Barnard Scholarship, which pays the annual fee for one of our Senior Company members. We are very pleased to announce the recipient of this scholarship for 2018 is Mae Ganambarr, pictured here with Beth! Thank you Beth for your generosity, we really appreciate it!

Call Out for Dancers for NEON!

DRILL's next major dance work with young people, NEON, is here and we're looking for dancers aged 14 to 30 to form our 2018 senior company.

NEON will be three 20-minute pieces, choreographed by Joshua Lowe, Angela Barnard and Jaala Jensen, each one in response to one of the chemical elements from the Periodic Table. All dancers in the company will be performing in all three works. In the final performance season, they will be performed all at once and looped three times, with the audience roaming the venue and deciding on which work to watch, and in what order. DRILL creates works that challenge how the audience experiences them, and NEON will be no exception.

This project will span over two years, with an extensive creative development during 2018, and the performance season in 2019. You do NOT need to be available in 2019 to participate in the 2018 creative development.
