BE A PART OF THE STANCE WITH LIESEL ZINK
The Stance is a monumental dance and sound performance that investigates the choreography of bodies in protest. Inspired by recent protests led by young Australians, The Stance questions how and why we protest, what makes us go to the streets to march, and how can we make the voice of the youth heard?
In this work the ensemble of dancers perform to a remarkable live score of music transmitted through wireless headsets, creating an intimate viewing experience for the audience. The Stance will occupy a large public space in central Hobart, and performed as a durational work across 2.5 hours. The Stance has been presented across Australia, Asia and Europe and won the Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance in 2017.
‘This is a magnificent, special artwork. It expresses the drama of a public space in which for over a century many souls have taken a stance in the cause of freedom’ - Matt Foley.
Participating dancers will work with choreographer Liesel Zink and The Stance performer Gabriel Comerford (Tasdance) across three intensives, and will remount the work through process-driven rehearsals. The intensives offer the opportunity to learn from internationally recognised dance artists and become part of the lineage of a nationally significant dance work.
This project is aimed at young and pre-professional dancers, tertiary students and graduates. Participants will need to be at least 16 years old, have contemporary dance experience and be available for all rehearsals and performance times. Participants travelling from interstate may be able to negotiate a reduced commitment schedule.
